What to look for in a DJ – Villa Antonia Edition

Arguably, of the most beautiful venues in Central Texas is Villa Antonia. Based in Jonestown, Texas, Villa Antonia’s sprawling architecture and picturesque views create some of the most memorable nights Premier Entertainment has ever DJ’d before.

While the wide variety of spaces at the venue means that you have plenty of spaces to entertain, when you book entertainment at Villa Antonia, there are a few considerations you’ll want to ask your DJ before moving forward.

  1. Familiar with the venue

  2. Layout and Set Ups

  3. Rain plan

  1. Is your DJ familiar with the venue?

Every DJ has their “first time” at a venue, and for many venues you can hire a DJ who has never been to the venue before and have a flawless day-of event. For Villa Antonia, we strongly recommend choosing a DJ who is familiar with the venue. DJ’s who have never been may not be aware of the Chapel area, upstairs patio, downstairs patio, staircase for grand entrances, wine cellar, and indoor dining areas, and you’ll want your DJ to come prepared with creative ideas on entertaining guests in each space you use.

2. Layout and Set Ups

This is the most important piece of information we can offer: Most DJs offer a standard sound system and a small speaker for cocktail hour — this standard offering is not going to cut it at Villa Antonia.

To create a truly seamless entertainment experience, your DJ will need to bring a minimum of 3 different speaker set ups, and be able to wirelessly transmit the sound across the entire Villa from a central waypoint.

We have seen weddings where the DJ breaks down an entire set up and the event is music-less for anywhere from 15 minutes to half an hour because the DJ only provided one or two set ups. You also don’t want a DJ running hundreds of feet of wires across the venue so the speakers can communicate.

Guests notice these wires and can even trip or fall if these aren’t handled correctly.  A truly professional event DJ will bring 4-5 set ups, and can wirelessly transmit the sound to any point in Villa with no gaps in the music or sound for your guests.

3. Rain Plan

With 200+ sunny days a year, Austin is a great place for sunny weddings. But at Villa Antonia, most of the venue is outdoors. Having a DJ who has been to the venue before means that they will have a rain plan in-place, and be able to accommodate last-minute layout adjustments such as moving into the chapel for dinner. An inexperienced DJ may place speakers in exposed environments, meaning that your rain delays will be longer while you wait for the DJ to move and protect their equipment.

All-in all, Villa Antonia is a must-see venue in Austin. Our Event Operations Manager and DJ Saint swears that she will host her wedding there one day herself. A seamless music and lighting experience is possible, and when executed professionally, your guests will make sure you know how incredible the night was. Make sure you find a DJ willing and able to go the extra mile to bring your vision to life.
